Factum Electronics AB has announced that it will supply the head-end system for the first commercial DAB+ launch in Europe. The system Factum delivers to Digi B Network is IP-based including advanced DAB+ audio and data services.

Digi B Network is a new network operator authorized by the Malta Communications Authority to roll out a DAB Network in Malta.

RadioScape has announced that Hangzhou HuaShu Media Ltd, a major provider of Cable TV, IP TV and broadband internet services in the Greater Hangzhou area, will roll-out new digital radio and multimedia services based on RadioScape’s latest broadcast system technology.

The Hangzhou project, won in conjunction with systems integrator partner Linfair Engineering, will be one of the most advanced digital broadcasting roll-outs for the Olympic Games with 30 DAB/DAB+ audio channels, multimedia channels and data services.

DAB has already been chosen as the industrial digital radio broadcasting standard in China.

DAB ownership is up 40% year-on-year according to figures on 1 May 08 by RAJAR. Listening to DAB radio grew by 10% quarter-on-quarter to 110 million hours.

RAJAR released radio listening data for Q1, 2008 and the news is all good for digital listening in general, and for DAB in particular.

The DRDB (Digital Radio Development Bureau) is encouraged by both listening and sales figures. Cumulative set sales at the end of March stood at 6.94 million, and new DAB services and multiplexes are expected to launch in 2008 further increasing listening choice on DAB.
